The Citizenship Tour is a 10-day experience that seeks to inspire students across the country to become more civically engaged, better informed citizens, and to highlight the importance of public service among SEA’s 20 U.S. member programs.
The Citizenship Tour provides a selection of civically minded and academically accomplished high school and college students from the SEA network with the opportunity to speak with leaders in government, journalism, education, policy, and the nonprofit community, engage in meaningful conversation with their peers, and learn about ways to become more civically active in their communities. The Tour is typically an in-person trip from New York City to Washington, D.C., during which participants also visit such sites as the Capitol Building, the New York Times Building, NBC Studios, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and the White House.
Highlights of previous Tours include meetings with U.S. Senators Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Tim Scott, Congressmen Elijah Cummings and John Lewis, Vice President Kamala Harris, Former Governor Deval Patrick, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, and Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan.
