In partnership with the Carnegie Corporation of New York, SEA provided grants to twelve member programs to support their community outreach programming and services, more than doubling the number of individuals impacted annually by these programs, from 2,000 to 4,500 children and adults.

Catalytic (10 City Challenge Fund)

The 10 City Challenge Fund aims to catalyze the opening of new SEA community centers, enabling SEA member organizations to greatly increase student enrollment and local impact. The unrestricted grants below were made to SEA member organizations that had recently opened centers of their own.

$25,000 – Cincinnati Squash Academy: Provide students with STEM skill-building through makerspace and direct instruction for CAD certification

$25,000 – Mission Success (Houston, TX):Test preparation and tutoring for middle and high school students to prepare them for admission to selective schools

$16,000 – 716 Squash (Buffalo, NY): Support student research, core content learning, and communication skills through a podcasting project

$35,000 – Kids On Point (Charleston, SC): Renovation of KOP’s new centralized headquarters at College of Charleston

$15,000 – Santa Barbara School of Squash (Santa Barbara, CA): Court conversion from racquetball to squash

$50,000 – Beyond Walls (Minneapolis, MN): SEA awarded a challenge grant to leverage new and increased gifts

$12,000 – CitySquash (Bronx, NY): Provide academic sessions for students during their school lunch periods, offering tutoring, homework help, and skill-building in organization and time management. This scheduling frees up after-school program hours for additional enrichment activities.

$30,000 – MetroSquash (Chicago, IL): Launch a near-peer mentoring and tutoring program, providing over 60 hours of tutoring to middle school students to improve reading proficiency. The program also promotes leadership, professional, and socio-emotional development for high school students.

$14,000 – Urban Squash Cleveland (Cleveland, OH): Partner with a literacy organization to provide evidence-based literacy instruction for all students, train staff and tutors, and engage families through an on-site library and workshops on supporting literacy at home.

Uses Reading Allowed for specialized reading instruction, support ESL students, teachers trained in Wilson Language Certification, students use skills for STEM activities

$10,000 –  Cincinnati Squash Academy (Cincinnati, OH): Strengthen squash programming through student opportunities, including private coaching lessons and travel to U.S tournaments

$15,000 – CitySquash (Bronx, NY): Strengthen squash programming by purchasing specialized equipment and for students travel to tournaments

$12,000 – Rally Portland (Portland, ME): Provide additional squash resources to its top players, such as private lessons and quarterly tournaments

$7,500 – Squash Urbano Colombia: Strengthen programming through student opportunities and cover the cost of hiring an experienced coach

Startup 

$100,000 – First State Squash (Wilmington, DE): Help the organization by strengthening finances, grow its board, and secure long-term facility with six courts and multiple classrooms.
